Nader Hasan and Stephen Aylward Publish Op-Ed on Digital Passwords and the Right Against Self-Incrimination

Stockwoods lawyers Nader Hasan and Stephen Aylward have written an op-ed in the Toronto Star on the importance of the right against self-incrimination in the ongoing debate around police powers and data encryption. The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police has proposed adopting legislation that would compel individuals to surrender their digital passwords to police officers. Hasan and Aylward argue that this proposal is a dangerous departure from the right against self-incrimination and should be rejected as unconstitutional.
