Liz McLellan

Practice Areas

Liz maintains a broad litigation practice encompassing commercial, securities, professional negligence, and public law matters. Liz has experience in matters involving director and officer liability, shareholder disputes, contractual claims, and applications for urgent injunctive relief. Liz has represented clients before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, acted as counsel in private arbitrations, defended individuals in regulatory proceedings and investigations, and acted as independent legal counsel to government-authorized bodies.

Liz joined Stockwoods as an associate in 2023. Prior to joining Stockwoods, she practiced at a top corporate and securities litigation boutique.

In 2022, Liz served as Commission Counsel on the Ottawa Light Rail Transit Public Inquiry.

Liz holds a J.D. from the University of Windsor Faculty of Law. Prior to attending law school, Liz held legislative affairs and issues management roles in several senior provincial cabinet minister’s offices, including, with the Minister of Finance, Attorney General and in the Premier’s Office.

Longarini v. Ranking et al., 2025 ONSC 2698 (brought successful motion to strike the plaintiff’s claim without leave to amend)

Milton v. Cotton et al., 2025 ONSC 5054 (successfully defended the applicant’s motion for injunctive relief and leave to bring a derivative action)

Re Reyes, 2023 CIRO 9 (represented the respondent in a CIRO investigation involving allegations of failure to use due diligence and ensuring investment recommendations were suitable)

Estill v. Jamieson, 2021 ONSC 7915 (represented a group of individuals in a complex partnership dispute)

Moreno (Re), 2021 CanLII 93579 (represented the respondent in a Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada (MFDA) proceeding involving pre-signed forms)

Represented a leading national wealth-management firm in investor-loss disputes and related regulatory proceedings before the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO)

Successfully defended a leading Canadian beauty brand against breach-of-contract claims in an Ontario Small Claims Court trial.
