Brian Gover named Special Advocate for Security Certificate Proceedings

Federal Minister of Justice Rob Nicholson today announced the appointment of Stockwoods partner Brian Gover as one of thirteen Special Advocates under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.  The purpose of Special Advocates is to protect the interests and rights of individuals who are subject to security certificates under the IRPA, ensuring they are adequately represented during closed proceedings.  The role of Special Advocates arises from the recent amendments to the IRPA security certificate process made through Bill C-3.

This appointment highlights Brian’s experience in litigation involving national security issues, demonstrated in previous appointments as Commission Counsel to the Arar Commission and Air India Commission.  For more information or to contact Brian, click here.
