The Law Society of Upper Canada has appointed our partner Gerald Chan to the Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee (“JAAC”). The JAAC is established by the Courts of Justice Act to make recommendations to the Attorney General of Ontario on judicial appointments to the Ontario Court of Justice. The JAAC is composed of: (a) two provincial judges, appointed by the Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice; (b) three lawyers, appointed by the Law Society of Upper Canada, Ontario Bar Association, and County and District Law Presidents’ Association, respectively; (c) seven lay persons, appointed by the Attorney General; and (d) a member of the Judicial Council.
