Justin Safayeni intervenes on behalf of Amnesty International Canada in a matter addressing federal funding of child welfare services

Justin Safayeni intervened on behalf of Amnesty International Canada in a matter before the Federal Court in Ottawa on a review of a decision of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.  The applicants were the Canadian Human Rights Commission, the Assembly of First Nations and the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society.  The issue was whether the federal government’s funding of child welfare services on reserve could ever be considered “adverse differentiation” under the Canadian Human Rights Act.  The hearing took place February 13-15, 2012 and was filed by the APTN and the National Film Board of Canada.  The decision is currently under reserve.
