Stockwoods involved in 2 of top 3 business decisions of 2017 according to Lexpert

Lexpert has recently released its annual list of the Top 10 Business Decisions for 2017.  Two of the top three decisions involved lawyers from Stockwoods.

Number two was Google v. Equustek Solutions, where the Supreme Court of Canada confirmed that Canadian courts have the jurisdiction to grant global injunctions against non-party internet intermediaries to protect plaintiffs wronged by a defendant’s online conduct.  Justin Safayeni and Carlo Di Carlo represented the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association, an intervening party.

The third ranked decision was Alberta v. University of Calgary, a case which further enshrined solicitor-client privilege in Canadian jurisprudence by establishing its primacy in the face of statutory production demands.  Brian Gover, Justin Safayeni and Carlo Di Carlo represented the Criminal Lawyers Association, an intervener.
