Gergana (Geri) Angelova

Practice Areas

Geri has a broad litigation practice with a focus on public law, criminal law, and regulatory matters. Before joining Stockwoods, Geri clerked at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Prior to her clerkship, Geri summered and articled at a leading full-service Canadian law firm.

Geri was called to the Bar in 2022 and holds a J.D. from the University of Toronto. During law school, Geri was actively involved in competitive moots and public interest work. Geri’s team won the 2020 Wilson Moot and she participated in the University of Toronto’s Grand Moot in 2021.

Prior to law school, Geri graduated with High Distinction from the University of Toronto where she specialized in Criminology. During this time, she attended Oxford University for a summer abroad Criminology course.

Representative Work

  • Stackhouse v. Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, 2025 ONSC 3183: Successfully brought an anti-SLAPP motion under s. 137.1 of the Courts of Justice Act, resulting in the dismissal of a defamation claim and related causes of action at an early stage of the litigation.
  • R. v. Keiser (unreported): Successfully brought a s. 11(b) Charter application before the Ontario Court of Justice resulting in the stay of criminal charges due to unreasonable delay.
  • Comeau v. 1140398 Ontario Ltd., 2024 ONSC 1501, 2024 ONSC 4438: Successfully defended a client against two of four allegations of civil contempt, significantly narrowing the scope of liability. Following findings on the remaining allegations, secured a sentence of house arrest in place of a 60-day period of incarceration sought by the opposing party.
  • Soleiman Faqiri Coroner’s Inquest, December 12, 2023: Represented the Faqiri family in the inquest into the death of Soleiman Faqiri where the jury returned a verdict of homicide along with 57 recommendations for government reforms.
