Law Students

Stockwoods is looking forward to participating in the 2027 Toronto 2L Law Student Summer Recruitment process.

The Student Program

Exposure to Complex, High-stakes Litigation

Working alongside some of the country’s leading litigators, students gain hands-on experience in commercial disputes, impact appeals, high-profile criminal matters, and confidential investigations. Our boutique structure and genuine open-door culture allow for meaningful engagement and real opportunities to contribute to client matters.

A Stockwoods Student

We look for students with a demonstrated interest in advocacy and a genuine commitment to the practice of litigation. In addition to strong academic credentials and excellent research and organizational skills, we value candidates who have pursued their interests through moots, clinics, debates, or similar experiences. We also look for students who’s extracurricular or work experiences have helped them develop strong client service and interpersonal skills, along with strong time management, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities.

Non-rotational Summer and Articling Programs

Summer and articling students participate in non-rotational programs, providing for in-depth exposure to the day-to-day practice of law and first hand experience in how we serve our clients. Students gain experience across the firm’s practice areas, including commercial litigation, administrative and public law, and criminal law. This approach fosters the development of practical skills, meaningful responsibility, and early insight into areas of professional interest.

Learning by Doing

Students work closely with partners in a true apprenticeship model, gaining hands-on experience and developing strong litigation and advocacy skills through meaningful work, including research, drafting, and pleadings. They gain early exposure to client meetings, hearings, discoveries, mediations, and trials, handling real matters such as consent motions, small claims, and summary conviction files. Students are encouraged to participate in team discussions and contribute directly to client work.

Mentorship and Feedback

Mentorship and feedback are central to the student experience. Students receive structured guidance from assigned partner and associate mentors, together with regular feedback throughout their term. They work in a collaborative environment where questions are encouraged, and working closely with experienced litigators gives students the opportunity to receive just-in-time guidance that supports their learning and professional growth.

Training and Professional Development

Students benefit from formalized ongoing training and professional development, beginning with a rigorous orientation designed to prepare them for their student experience. Throughout their time at the firm, continuing learning initiatives, lunch n’ learns and different workshops support the development of the substantive knowledge and professional skills required of effective client-focused advocates.

Beyond work

The firm’s collegial culture extends beyond day-to-day work. Summer and articling students participate in a range of social activities that provide opportunities to connect with mentors and other colleagues in a relaxed setting, often outside of the office.

Fostering a Diverse and Inclusive Workplace

Our firm is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone is treated with respect and has the opportunity to succeed. We value diverse perspectives and believe they strengthen our work, our community and the service we provide to our clients.
