City of Toronto Orders Audit of Councillor’s Campaign Expenses

The City of Toronto’s Compliance Audit Committee has ordered an audit of the campaign expenses of Councillor Jim Karygiannis relating to the 2018 municipal election. The Committee’s decision came in response to an application by Adam Chaleff, a resident of the City of Toronto who was represented by Stockwoods lawyer, Stephen Aylward. The application alleged that there were reasonable grounds to believe a number of campaign expenses, including $81,000 in “honoraria”, had been misclassified to avoid the spending limit.
