Stockwoods lawyers Brian Gover, Ted Marrocco and Justin Safayeni recently completed their representation of the Thunder Bay Police Service and the Thunder Bay Police Services Board at a joint Coroner’s inquest into the deaths of seven First Nations youths in the city of Thunder Bay. The inquest was one of the longest in Ontario’s history. After more than seven months of evidence from more than 140 witnesses, the jury issued verdicts and recommendations consistent with the police positions in all seven cases.
In an interview with CBC News, Chief of Police, JP Levesque, stated that the Thunder Bay Police Service views the recommendations as “positive” and that many are already being implemented or completed.
The jury’s verdicts and recommendations represent the culmination of a three year collaboration with the leadership of the Thunder Bay Police Service and the Thunder Bay Police Services Board.
The seven verdicts and related recommendations can be requested from the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.
