Brendan van Niejenhuis to speak at police adjudicators/prosecutors conference

On November 16, 2016, Stockwoods partner Brendan van Niejenhuis will be addressing the 14th annual Police Adjudicators’ and Prosecutors’ Conference held in Orillia, Ontario.  Brendan will speak to a series of issues arising from the firm’s experience prosecuting all of the OIPRD-directed discipline hearings arising from the 2010 G20 summit held in Toronto, in which conflict between police and protestors led to a large number of public complaints.  The series of cases included the successful prosecution of the Toronto Police Superintendent charged with unlawfully confining two large crowds of civilians near the Esplanade and near the intersection of Queen & Spadina, which attracted widespread public attention.
