Stockwoods lawyers intervene at Supreme Court of Canada

On May 12, 2011, Stockwoods lawyers Owen Rees and Fredrick Schumann appeared on behalf theCanadian Public Health Association (CPHA) in the Supreme Court of Canada in Attorney General of Canada, et al. v. PHS Community Services Society, et al. CPHA intervened to argue that the blanket prohibition on the possession of illicit drugs without exception for safe injection sites, such as Insite in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side, violates its users’ rights to life and security of the person under s. 7 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
